HVAC and Forced Air Ventilation System Operator (NPP)

       

The HVAC and Forced Air Ventilation System Operator will be based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq. Coordinate, execute, maintain, repair and install all types of HVAC and forced air ventilation system equipment, refrigerant and chiller/chilled water systems, air filtration and automated and stationary air control louvers, fans, dampers, motor operators and linkages, sensors and actuators, pumps and motors, split packs, duct and diffusers, temperature and environmental air monitoring systems, valves, piping and all associated system control systems. Perform preventative maintenance (PM) activities, inspections and repairs; respond to emergency calls and maintain and repair all HVAC and air ventilation systems. Must possess Master HVAC/Mechanical License. Reports to Power Generation Supervisor.

DUTIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily to meet or exceed manufacturer and equipment design performance specifications and life cycle/durability and to meet a required zero downtime performance metric. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Coordinate, troubleshoot, monitor, calibrate/adjust all HVAC and air ventilation system components and record system performance parameters, including system statuses, trouble and fault codes, perform air handler and distribution servicing, air filter cleaning and change outs, water basket cleaning, servicing of water treatment systems, sensors, actuators, fans and control modules, wiring and thermostats, pressure and air flow sensors and PLC based controls, software upgrades and system modifications and alterations. Operate and maintain and service all HVAC machines, chillers, fan coil units, split packs, pumps and motors, including controllers, water purification/treatment systems, replace or repair piping systems, valves, supporting hardware and systems, forced air ventilation systems, louvers, dampers, filters, BAS controls and interfaces, and forced air fans, ducting, louvers and linkages. Work shall include necessary services to perform system and component replacements and rebuilds, restoration of failed components and adjustment/modification of electro-mechanical and PLC based/computer-controlled hardware and software maintenance. Systems testing and balancing and recommissioning activities are also included. 

Perform routine and cyclic/repetitive preventative maintenance inspections adjustments, calibrations and repairs for the facility HVAC and forced air ventilation systems. Work shall also include predictive and nonintrusive operations and maintenance services, e.g. infrared thermographic scanning, flow rate, pressure and temperature testing.

Repair, rebuild, or replace all HVAC and forced air ventilation systems and components, piping systems, air terminal and refrigeration equipment, pumps and control valves, air ducting and associated parts and controls and system testing, recommissioning and monitoring systems.

Respond to emergency HVAC/air ventilation system outages, failed components and all associated system restorations and perform necessary repairs to bring equipment back to a fully restored service level that meets or exceeds equipment or manufacturer or as designed performance specifications.

Install new alter or modify existing system components, layout or configuration, system improvements with associated HVAC fixtures and associated devices and modify/rebuild existing systems, as tasked.

Provide labor and material estimates related to HVAC and/or air ventilation system, delivery and services for repairs, rehabilitations, service restoration, etc.

May assist other trades with operations, maintenance, and repair services.

Perform any required seasonal startup or shutdown services.

REQUIRED:

Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:
Five or more years of experience in related trade. Experience as maintenance and repair technician in industrial or power utility operations within private or public power utility sector is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform math computations needed in trade.
Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
Ability to promote and follow Superintendent and US Post policies and building and department procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator. Shall be trained in NFPA and OSHA including asbestos awareness, confined space entry and electrical safety in the workplace and any applicable EPA certifications necessary to operate and maintain refrigerant systems and maintain the HVAC and power generation air ventilation systems, facility, and equipment assets.
Education: High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school or short-term courses resulting in Master Plumbers or Pipe Fitters License.

Valid driver’s license
Valid Master HVAC/Mechanical License required for hire. License shall be issued by US State or local jurisdiction. License shall be held and maintained during employment and while performing work.
Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government-issued secret security clearance or be able to obtain a secret clearance prior to being hired. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
Language Skills: Superior English proficiency to meet job requirements, communicate with various DOS personnel, and all levels customers, from entry-level workers to senior corporate officials. Must also be able to adhere to and comply with safety, health, and security measures/protocol.
Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
• Thorough knowledge of applicable ASHRAE, NFPA codes, HVAC/R codes and regulations.
Ability to read blueprints.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in area of certification prior to work commencement.
• Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
• Operating knowledge of general HVAC/R repair and maintenance equipment and efficient use of repair parts and tools of the trade required for hire.

DESIRED:

Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
Experience working with Amentum-PAE.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position is in an austere environment with harsh and dangerous conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
