Mechanic I (Airframes Corrosion Control F-18)


The successful Aircraft Mechanic I (Airframe Corrosion Control F-18) performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on specific applicable T/M/S aircraft airframes, ordnance, egress/life support system, power plants, corrosion control and painting, and related systems hired to maintain. Perform flight line essential services as directed by daily Flight Schedule.

Maintains, repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, hydraulics, and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.  Routine lifting in excess of OSHA standards is required in accordance with standard USN procedures. Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, O-Level aircraft weapons/ordnance loading systems and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, engine test equipment, fuel cell test equipment, Engine/APU Turn Qual procedures, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, the CNAFINST 4790.2 Series, and NALCOMIS maintenance action data documentation etc. is required.

Principle Accountabilities

Services, repairs, and overhauls aircraft to ensure airworthiness.
Assists repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures of moderate difficulty, such as wings, fuselage, surface controls and functional components to include rigging, plumbing and hydraulic units utilizing hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet guns and drills.
Reads and interprets manufacturer’s publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Inspects airframe components for fluid leaks, cracks and other damage.
Assist troubleshoot, remove, replace and repair aircraft structural and hydraulic system components.
Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems.

Job Requirements

Must have completed the Navy Class “C” school in airframe and hydraulic repair for the position-specific T/M/S aircraft, or USMC/USCG equivalent. (Three years organizational level experience on the applicable position specific T/M/S aircraft may be substituted for the Class “C” school.)
Shall have a minimum of three years’ experience in Organizational Level airframes/hydraulics maintenance in similar T/M/S aircraft.
Shall have completed the appropriate T/M required/Series preferred aircraft specific Navy Skill Specialty Class “A” school in airframes, hydraulics, and related systems or USMC/USCG equivalent.
High School graduate or equivalent. 
Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required clearance, qualification, or certification.
Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.
Must have F/18 aircraft maintenance experience.
Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment is required. 

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $40.40 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
