Purpose and Scope:
The Technical & Compliance Director/VP leads the delivery of all Technical & Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality (ESH&Q) aspects within the International business line. They plan and direct activities concerned with the development, application, and implementation of an EHS&Q programme in the UK that is compliant with relevant ISO standards. In this capacity the role performs the overarching lead for Head of Professions within the EHS&Q and Technical disciplines within the International Business.
This is a senior leadership role which sits on the International Executive Team reporting into the MD / SVP International. The role provides the Board and Executive team with competent EHS advice in pursuance of legally, morally and ethical business’s undertakings. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, stakeholder identification and engagement within Amentum, the Customer and supplier organisations. The role requires excellent technical, engineering and EHS&Q& nuclear safety capabilities demonstrated in a successful career in a highly regulated multi-organisational environment. Demonstrable, directly relevant knowledge of major technically challenging programmes will be necessary to fully discharge the role. Exceptional people skills are necessary to fully utilise and apply the range of different capabilities and experiences available within the programme team and a sound, rational decision-making ability is core to developing complex, multi-disciplinary solutions to unique challenges in a dynamic programme delivery environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the Integrated Management Systems (IMS) and Assurance & Control programs throughout the International business, on multiple projects & programmes with high risk and complexity. Evaluate the performance of the IMS and make recommendations toward continuous improvement
Leads, manages, and coordinates assurance and oversight activities: development of assurance audits programme for projects; oversight and execution of assurance activities; monitoring/audit of engineering and nuclear safety performance
Leads on maintaining all relevant accreditations and is responsible for the execution of regular audits in support of relevant ISO standards.
Manage resource deployment and oversee the professional development of the Technical & EHS&Q staff
Ensuring the International business fulfills its requirements in meeting the required corporate EHS KPI’s and Objectives.
Develops as appropriate annual EHS improvement plans.
Ensures adherence to company policies, procedures, and related government regulations and that client requirements are flowed down into appropriate procedures and documents.
Interface with the Amentum ES&H and QA function and play a role on the ES&H and QA FACT teams
Act a lead for EHS regulatory interface with appropriate bodies (HSE, ONR & EA)
Ensures that the organization understands, embraces, and employs sound EHS&Q methodologies in all its work and that a set of metrics is developed and used to accurately, timely, and cost effectively measure and communicate quality performance.
Interfaces with senior project directors / managers in the annual function of goal setting, and helps to ensure the professional development planning of the Technical & EHS&Q professionals in the Company.
Ensure there is a thorough understanding and application of relevant safety legislation, including: Construction Design and Management (CDM); Principal Designer requirements; Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER); Health and Safety at Work Act
Provides guidance and direction on working with nuclear industry standard gated delivery processes, ensuring programme consistency. Including knowledge of the UK nuclear site license conditions and specifically those related to engineering.
Knowledge and credible experience of the UK nuclear and environmental regulators and their interactions with UK nuclear site license companies
Leadership – Demonstrate clear articulate strategic and tactical thinking to direct the technical, engineering and safety / assurance team and stakeholders as appropriate. Use personal knowledge, skills and presence to guide the technical, engineering and safety / assurance team
Provides leaders for Head of Profession within the EHS&Q and Technical disciplines within the International Business.
Create and maintain a dynamic technical, engineering and nuclear safety assurance team delivering the assigned programme and projects. Responsible for the long term strategy for growing our technical capability in line with the business’s growth strategy
Leads in establishing development plans and succession planning for all key technical and compliance specialists.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, ES&Q, or other related degree or demonstrated equivalent and extensive experience in area of specialization with a minimum of 10 years management experience in senior leadership role, and previous experience advising at board / exec level.
Position requires travel within and outside the U.K. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
