Associate Writer

Position Summary:

KBR seeks an entry level Associate Writer to collaborate with our National Security Solutions (NSS) Business Growth team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about business growth while exercising your writing talents. This candidate must be a continuous learner with the ability to accept and act upon constructive feedback on developed writing products. This position requires significant collaboration with many people including technical and business growth subject matter experts (SMEs). Over time, this candidate will learn to synthesize, interpret, and translate, with limited guidance, solicitation requirements, win themes, and subject matter expertise to develop compliant and compelling proposal content and narrative for various other business growth documents. The content will include technical data, management information, organization charts, resumes, references, and past corporate performance documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Working on writing assignments varying in length and detail and meeting writing deadlines established by business growth leadership
Managing and prioritizing multiple simultaneous writing assignments
Writing clear, persuasive, and articulate business growth text and proposal content
Interviewing subject matter experts to obtain relevant content and using the information gathered to write articulate and compelling content for inclusion in business growth documents and proposals
Resolving and incorporating comments from reviews
Providing timely editing support
Reviewing and editing content written by teammates to ensure that all required information is provided in a clear, concise, and consistent manner and that the text is readable on both a technical and non-technical level, is appropriate for the intended audience, and fulfills the documentation requirements
Supporting the development of boilerplate text and model content for business growth documents and proposal sections
Supporting data call responses, sources sought, Requests for Information (RFIs), and market research
Identifying, decomposing, and responding to requirements for technical, management, resume, past performance, and other proposal requirements
Assisting in organizing and writing narrative related to technical and corporate capabilities or other required proposal content. As business growth experience is gained, lead the writing of proposal sections.

Basic Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to write clear and concise language that adheres to editorial guidance, style guides, and page limitations
Ability to edit written content for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and clarity
Ability to work independently and to work effectively with teams, including virtual teams
Effective time management skills and a strong attention to detail
Flexible and open to changing schedules and priorities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within in compressed timeframes
Knowledge of word processing software (Microsoft Word) and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated experience identifying, decomposing, and developing responses to writing assignments
Experience interviewing, taking notes, and developing cohesive narrative from information gathered. Includes becoming familiar with the source, developing questions, conducting interview sessions while taking notes, and independently developing content into final narrative.
U.S. citizen residing in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Technical Writing, or related field, preferred but not required
0-3 years of experience as a Proposal Writer for one or more federal contractors, or 0-3 years of experience as a writer in journalism, marketing, or other related industries
Knowledge of the proposal development process
Passionate about working in the intelligence, cyber, information technology and/or defense communities and industries
Experience identifying, decomposing, and responding to Federal Government solicitations for technical, management, resume, and past performance information and narrative
Familiarity with cloud-based content management systems such as SharePoint, Teams, and similar systems

Security Clearance Requirements: 

Willingness and ability to hold a security clearance

Work Schedule:

Hybrid – Flexible schedule with time spent working from home and working and collaborating in the Chantilly, VA; Dayton, OH; or Colorado Springs, CO offices

Scheduled Weekly Hours:

40 hours per week

Basic Compensation:

$58,000 – $87,000

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
